At afarax, we connect top freelance IT professionals with projects that matter. We are currently seeking a Datacom Transmission Network Operator to support one of our clients in the utilities sector. This role is ideal for someone with strong operational network expertise who thrives in fast-paced environments where reliability and responsiveness are key.

The Mission

You will join the Data Transport Network Operations Center (NOC) team, where your main responsibility will be to ensure the smooth functioning of the datacom transmission network. You will monitor and resolve incidents quickly, manage planned and unplanned maintenance activities, and contribute to the continuous reliability of critical network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate the datacom transmission network to ensure optimal performance.

• Respond swiftly to network incidents, minimizing downtime and impact.

• Plan and coordinate maintenance and repair activities, both scheduled and unscheduled.

• Work closely with colleagues, suppliers, and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

• Continuously improve technical knowledge of LAN, WAN, and transmission technologies.

• Ensure effective communication and documentation of network operations.

Your Profile

• Fluent in Dutch or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language.

• Strong command of English (mandatory).

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, ICT, Telecommunications, or equivalent technical experience.

• Several years of experience in Helpdesk or Network Operations Support roles.

• Hands-on knowledge of modern LAN/WAN networks and technologies: PDH, SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, IP/MPLS, VoIP.

• Strong sense of responsibility, able to set priorities, assess risks, and work methodically.

• Flexible, approachable, and able to remain effective under pressure.

• Customer-oriented, with excellent communication skills (phone and written).

• Comfortable working in complex organizational environments and with multiple tools.
