The project
Our client in the utilities sector is seeking a freelance Sparx Systems Enterprise Repository Administrator to reinforce their IT Architecture and Application Portfolio Management capabilities.
The mission
You will be responsible for the governance, quality, and evolution of the central Sparx EA repository, ensuring accurate, consistent, and actionable architecture and application portfolio data. You will act as a key interface between Business, IT Architecture, and Product teams, supporting decision-making and enterprise transparency.
Key responsibilities
Repository management & governance

Maintain and continuously enhance the central Sparx Enterprise Architect repository, ensuring accuracy, structure, and completeness of:

Applications

Interfaces

Architecture models

Documentation

Monitor and manage changes across the application landscape, including new implementations, updates, and decommissioning.

Ensure accurate mapping between business processes and supporting applications.

Lead the deployment and lifecycle management of MDG developments, including testing, validation, release tracking, and documentation.

Implement and test updates required to integrate APM applications into Sparx EA in collaboration with development teams.

Test new versions of Sparx EA and Prolaborate prior to deployment to ensure stability and compatibility.
Application portfolio management & data quality

Consolidate, validate, and enrich application metadata (ownership, lifecycle, dependencies, attributes) in close collaboration with:

Product Owners

Business Architects

IT domain leads

Ensure data consistency, completeness, and usability across the repository.

Identify application overlaps, usage patterns, and rationalization opportunities, providing insights to support strategic decisions.
Stakeholder support & collaboration
-
Act as a central point of contact for Business and IT stakeholders regarding repository access, usage, updates, and governance.

Handle functional and technical inquiries related to architecture and portfolio information.

Manage user access and permissions, ensuring secure and appropriate repository usage.

Support users with modeling standards, best practices, and correct repository usage, including assistance with VBA scripting when required.

Facilitate cross-team collaboration by resolving inconsistencies and integrating stakeholder feedback.
Reporting, dashboards & industrialization

Design, configure, and deploy Prolaborate dashboards to improve visibility, collaboration, and decision-making.

Support advanced querying and reporting in Sparx EA and Prolaborate.

Drive the industrialization of reports and dashboards, ensuring reusable, scalable, and professional outputs.

Prepare regular portfolio health and quality reports for Business and IT leadership.
Vendor & tooling coordination

Manage relationships with Sparx Systems, including licensing for:

Sparx Enterprise Architect

Pro Cloud Server
-

Coordinate with internal teams and vendors on tool evolution and repository enhancements.
Ways of working

Operate as part of a project team, reporting to a Project Leader and following the defined methodology.

Within the IT Architecture team, support the setup and maturation of Application Portfolio Management using Sparx EA.

Within product teams, act as a team member supporting Product Owners in an Agile / Scrum environment.
Is this you?

Strong and proven expertise in Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect and Prolaborate (mandatory).

Solid experience in Business Architecture and Application Portfolio Management.

Strong knowledge of ArchiMate, BPMN, and UML.

Experience with data structuring, documentation, reporting, and dashboarding.

Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a constructive and critical approach.

Excellent communication skills, able to interact with a broad range of stakeholders.

Ability to work independently, with strong planning and organizational skills.
